Article on essential and hazardous element contents in marine fish
Understanding the variability and drivers behind fish composition data can better help us develop nutrition-sensitive approaches to reach relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals and combat malnutrition. Researchers from the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research analysed essential and hazardous element data from ~15,700 fish collected between 2010-2020 in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean to investigate 1) how different the concentrations were, and 2) what drove the observed differences. They found that the size of the fish and/or where the fish was from were important drivers behind the concentrations of several investigated elements, including selenium and mercury.
