The Norwegian budstikke is a traditional wooden stick used in Norway historically. The budstikke held important messages inside and was passed on to spread news or warnings quickly across a region. The budstikke symbolizes community cooperation and collective action in Norwegian culture, and nowadays, it is used metaphorically to call for action or to rally people together.

Starting this year, the Global Action Network will adopt the budstikke as a symbol to carry key messages of events to encourage boundaries between people with different knowledge and perspectives. This initiative aims to promote interdisciplinary sciences and science-based policy making, with a specific focus on the roles of aquatic foods in food security and nutrition, which are often overlooked in public policies.

Through this effort, we are calling for actions from healthy waters to healthy people to include aquatic foods as a key food source for achieving food security and improving nutrition.
