{"id":385867,"date":"2020-11-16T15:34:54","date_gmt":"2020-11-16T14:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nettsteder.regjeringen.no\/ansvarlignaringsliv2\/?p=385867"},"modified":"2024-06-26T10:43:04","modified_gmt":"2024-06-26T08:43:04","slug":"survey-on-norwegian-business-leaders-knowledge-of-the-oecd-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nettsteder.regjeringen.no\/ansvarlignaringsliv2\/news\/survey-on-norwegian-business-leaders-knowledge-of-the-oecd-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey on Norwegian business leaders&#8217; knowledge of the OECD Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"text-wrap post-content clearfix\"><p>Norway\u2019s NCP has made a survey mapping Norwegian business leaders\u2019 knowledge of the OECD Guidelines and the Norwegian National Contact Point.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the business leaders report that \u201csustainability\u201d and \u201cpolicy for responsible business conduct\u201d are integrated in their operations, and that the board is involved in the company\u2019s work with responsible business conduct (RBC). However, conducting due diligence for responsible business conduct is less common; half of the business leaders report having done this. There is reason to believe that less than half actually conduct due diligence in line with the recommendations in the OECD Guidelines. The minority have relevant KPIs or systematic reporting related to RBC.\u00a0Approximately one in five Norwegian companies with international activities have written guidelines that refer to the OECD Guidelines.<\/p>\n<h3>Low level of knowledge of the OECD Guidelines and the NCP<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>34% were familiar with or had heard of the OECD Guidelines<\/li>\n<li>13% were familiar with or had heard of the Norwegian National Contact Point<\/li>\n<li>15% were familiar with or had heard of the OECD guidance on due diligence for responsible business conduct.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_385875\" style=\"max-width: 800px;\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone size-medium-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-385875 \" src=\"https:\/\/files.nettsteder.regjeringen.no\/wpuploads01\/blogs.dir\/263\/files\/2020\/11\/business-leaders-knowledge-of-the-OECD-GLs-800x501.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/files.nettsteder.regjeringen.no\/wpuploads01\/blogs.dir\/263\/files\/2020\/11\/business-leaders-knowledge-of-the-OECD-GLs-800x501.jpg 800w, https:\/\/files.nettsteder.regjeringen.no\/wpuploads01\/blogs.dir\/263\/files\/2020\/11\/business-leaders-knowledge-of-the-OECD-GLs-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/files.nettsteder.regjeringen.no\/wpuploads01\/blogs.dir\/263\/files\/2020\/11\/business-leaders-knowledge-of-the-OECD-GLs-768x481.jpg 768w, https:\/\/files.nettsteder.regjeringen.no\/wpuploads01\/blogs.dir\/263\/files\/2020\/11\/business-leaders-knowledge-of-the-OECD-GLs-400x251.jpg 400w, https:\/\/files.nettsteder.regjeringen.no\/wpuploads01\/blogs.dir\/263\/files\/2020\/11\/business-leaders-knowledge-of-the-OECD-GLs.jpg 975w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Business leaders\u2019 knowledge of the OECD Guidelines and the NCP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Low level of due diligence<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Approximately half of companies with international activities have performed due diligence\/risk assessments in their own operations and\/or in their supply chain or among business partners.<\/li>\n<li>Nine in ten of the companies that reported they had conducted due diligence, informed that this was done in their own operations<\/li>\n<li>Less than half (47%) had conducted due diligence for RBC in their supply chain; and only one in three had assessed business partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Risk issues<\/h3>\n<p>Climate\/environment and workers\u2019 rights were more often covered by the assessments than were human rights or corruption. More than half of the companies reported that they had performed assessments in \u201cother areas\u201d; however, write-in responses indicate that these mostly did not meet OECDs definition of \u201cdue diligence for responsible business conduct\u201d. Slightly more companies report that they need more knowledge about performing due diligence.<br \/>\nOnly nineteen per cent of Norwegian companies with international activities report that they have received guidance on RBC from relevant Norwegian state agencies that provide economic support or services to business.<\/p>\n<h3>The National Contact Point provides useful guidance on RBC<\/h3>\n<p>Informants in the qualitative part of the survey, all described the NCP as a useful and competent interlocutor, and all said that the opportunity to exchange experiences and learn from each other was the most useful part of the RBC training of the NCP.<\/p>\n<h3>Need for relevant information on RBC for small and medium sized enterprises<\/h3>\n<p>The qualitative interviews with businesses leaders, who were recruited from the sample of survey respondents, suggest that while there is momentum behind RBC, there is still the fact that small companies do not have the resources or the expertise that is available to larger companies.
